I was the subject of a COP 9 (suspicion of fraud) enquiry and had initially attempted to engage with HMRC directly without professional help, and subsequently engaged another firm of accountants who were unable to make much progress with HMRC. This resulted in me being directly involved in stressful and lengthy meetings and correspondence which lasted for several years.

I was introduced to Jeff Lishak and his team at Jones & Partners so they could take a fresh review of my case as HMRC were actually creating problems for me and making assumptions without access to all material facts and we seemed to be getting nowhere. All of this was very stressful as I didn’t fully understand the seriousness of the investigation and had naively answered questions thinking I was helping HMRC where they were actually trying to implicate me in a situation which was just not correct. The accountants I had previously engaged to assist me proved unable to move HMRC from the stance they had taken.

I was recommended Jones and Partners who after their initial review undertook a full forensic study of all matters that had been discussed with HMRC and produced a full and comprehensive disclosure report demonstrating a clear and full understanding of all the issues and this was submitted to HMRC.
Within 6 weeks of submission of the report HMRC responded stating that they fully accepted the position as had been explained to them and they cancelled all of the estimated assessments that had been raised and confirmed they were dropping the case with no tax cost to me.
